This DIY is especially near and dear to my heart since I am such an organization freak! Im obsessed with boxes and containers for storage…especially the pretty ones 😉 . Also, I think any creative person would agree with me when I say that I hate to part with things that I think could be used for something else down the road. In this case… a really strong box and a whole lot of extra baby swaddles. So without further ado, here is what you will need for this project:
- a baby swaddle
- a diaper box (however this is not mandatory…really you could use any size box you would like that has a full bottom and sides)
- a hot glue gun
- box tape
Start by reinforcing the bottom opening of the box with tape. Then, remove the top opening flaps with scissors.
Drape your swaddle blanket over the opening of the box and spread the swaddle to the corners of the box with your finger tips (as shown below).
Next, run a line of hot glue around the top edges of the box. Do this gradually while pressing down the swaddle as you glue. Be sure to evenly gather the extra fabric around the box so that it is not all gathered in just one section.
Once your finished, trim the excess swaddle fabric around the edges of the box.
Now this is the fun part! Starting from the top corner of the box, hot glue the beginning of your rope. Press firmly for about 7-10 seconds or until the glue dries enough that the rope will not fall off. Continue to glue the rope around the box, making endless circles until you have reached the end. When gluing, you do not need to do a continuous line of hot glue; instead you can do a small dollop every 2-3 inches.
Once you have finished gluing the rope around the box you are finished! If you want to get the painted stripe at the bottom of the box, tape off the section of the box you would like painted. Either using spray paint or a brush and paint, paint the bottom half of your box.
There are so many ways you can decorate your new Upcycled Diaper Box. Feel free to add different types of rope or other decorating materials like pom-poms.
